Certification Areas

The Region 7 EPP has been approved to offer the following certificate areas. Certification areas are determined by transcript hours or passing the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) exam. Click the five buttons below to learn more about each certificate and the requirements for admittance.

Elementary Certification (Early Childhood - 6)

Candidates desiring to teach English language arts and reading (ELAR), math, science, social studies, music, art, health, and physical education in Early Childhood (EC) through Grade 6 will be certified in

Core Subjects EC - 6 with Science of Teaching Reading

To be eligible for admittance you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:

- have a minimum of twelve (12) hours from the coursework listed below with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  - English
  - Math
  - Science
  - Social Studies
  - Kinesiology and/or Fine Arts
- Or Pass the TX PACT: Essential Academic Skills (700)

Core Middle Level Certification (Grades 4 - 8)

Candidates desiring to teach English language arts and reading (ELAR), math, science, social studies, music, art, health, and physical education in Grade 4 through Grade 8 will be certified in

Core Subjects 4 - 8 with Science of Teaching Reading

To be eligible for admittance you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:

- have a minimum of twelve (12) hours from the coursework listed below with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  - English
  - Math
  - Science
  - Social Studies
- Or Pass the TX PACT Core Subjects: Grades 4-8 (790)

Math and Science

Candidates desiring to teach subject areas in math or science will be certified in one of the following

Math (4-8)
Math/Science (4-8)
Science (4-8)
Math (7-12)
Science (7-12)
Life Science (7-12)
Physical Science (7-12)
Chemistry (7-12)
Physics/Mathematics (7-12)

To be eligible for admittance you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:

- have a minimum of fifteen (15) hours of coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the area seeking certification.

Or Pass the associated Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT)

Secondary Areas

Candidates desiring to teach subject areas in grades 6-12 will be certified in one of the following

English Language Arts & Reading with Science of Teaching Reading (4-8)
English Language Arts & Reading/Social Studies with Science of Teaching Reading (4-8)
Social Studies (4-8)
English Language Arts & Reading (7-12)
History (7-12)
Social Studies (7-12)
Speech (7-12)
Dance (6-12)
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) (7-12)
Journalism (7-12)

To be eligible for admittance you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:

- have a minimum of twelve (12) hours of coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the area seeking certification.

Or Pass the associated Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT)

All Grade Level Areas (EC - 12)

Candidates desiring to teach subject areas in any grade will be certified in one of the following

Art
Health
Music
Physical Education
Spanish
Special Education
Technology Applications
Theater Arts

To be eligible for admittance you MUST hold a bachelor’s degree AND either:

- have a minimum of twelve (12) hours of coursework with a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the area seeking certification.

Or Pass the associated Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT)

Changing Certification Areas
An applicant is admitted into the program based on a transcript evaluation or PACT score. Content preparation is specific to the certification area; therefore, changing the certification areas must be approved by the director and may require you to pass a PACT exam to meet current acceptance requirements, take additional TExES content exams, and/or complete additional coursework, including field-based experiences.
